Call for nominations for 2023 AACI Outstanding PhD Dissertation Award
During the open nomination period, the AACI Award Committee accepts nominations for the PhD Dissertation Award. This award is presented annually to the author(s) of the most outstanding PhD dissertation(s) either in basic theory or applied research within the fields of artificial intelligence and perceptual cognitive technology. The dissertation(s) should demonstrate significant innovation in key technologies or applied methodologies.
Eligibility
1. Only a Ph.D. student’s advisor may nominate a dissertation.
2. For each year’s award cycle, all PhD dissertations in theory and/or applications of cognitive intelligence for which the PhD degree has been granted up to the fifth year (included) prior to the submission year are eligible.
3. Nominations are welcomed from any country, but only English language versions will be accepted.

Selection Criteria
Dissertations will be reviewed for technical depth and significance of the research contribution, potential impact on theory and practice of artificial intelligence and perceptual cognitive technology, and the quality of presentation. The evaluations of the nominations include:
1. The AACI Award Committee of the AACI Society will evaluate the PhD dissertation, and each dissertation will be reviewed by at least 3 committee members.
2. The evaluation criteria may include, but not limited to
Relevance of the dissertation to topics of artificial intelligence and perceptual cognitive technology
Originality of the main ideas in the dissertation
Significance of scientific contributions
Technical depth and soundness of the dissertation
Overall presentation and readability of dissertation
Submissions
1. Nominations for the Outstanding PhD Dissertation Award should be submitted online during the open nomination period through awards@aaci.org.hk.
2. Submitted materials should explain the contribution in terms understandable to a non-specialist. Each nomination involves several components:
Copy of the PhD dissertation (we only accept the dissertation in Chinese or English).
List of publications in journals and conference proceedings (as first author, or second author with supervisor as first author) generated by the research reported in the PhD dissertation.
Nomination statement (400-500 words in length) addressing why the candidate should receive this award.
Three supporting letters by scientists or professionals who have not been involved in the research performed by the applicant/nominee, and who can provide additional insights or evidence of the dissertation’s impact.
Name, address, and email address of the candidate (person being nominated). Affiliation should be the name of the school.
Name, address, phone number, and email address of the nominator (the student’s thesis advisor).
Please pack the above materials into a compressed file with each item clearly named according to the outline, and send it to the requested email address.
Please name the subject of the email as the following format: award name + candidate name + candidate’s affiliation.
